The 4th National Steel Green and Low Carbon Development Conference was held in Nanjing on Sep 8, 2023. Delegates from the government, steel and related industry enterprises, and industrial associations focused on the two major themes of ultra-low emissions and "carbon peaking and neutrality goals", exchanging and discussing on technological innovation and policies.

          This meeting is guided by the China Iron and Steel Industry Association, hosted by China Metallurgical News, and organized by Nanjing Steel United Co., Ltd.

          Zhang Haideng, Deputy Director of the Raw Materials Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, expressed three opinions in his speech on promoting green and low-carbon development of the steel industry:

          Firstly, promote green and low-carbon development of the steel industry through industrial innovation.

          Secondly, the key work of innovation driving green and low-carbon development.

          Thirdly, promoting green and low-carbon development is an important part of stabilizing growth. Zhang Haideng stated that we should closely combine green and low-carbon development with the work of keeping stable growth, fully leverage the role of the steel industry as a fundamental and pillar industry of the national economy, and make greater contributions to stable industrial growth and economic operation.

          Jiang Wei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of CISA, stated in his speech that we ought to improve the ideological standing, fully recognize the importance of green and low-carbon work, continue to promote high-quality ultra-low emission transformation, and the progress of green and low-carbon technology in the industry, accelerate the formulation of low-carbon emission steel standards. At the same time, we need to strengthen the system concept and promote green and low-carbon transformation from the view of the whole industrial chain and focus on weak areas and basic work such as data governance.

          Jiang Wei also stated that we encourage top steel companies to use funds and innovative resources in various ways to promote collaborative research and development of common technologies in determining the future low-carbon key cutting-edge technology development of China's steel, and strive to seize the opportunity in the new round of green development competition in the world. CISA will track and promptly report the company's requirements to relevant departments for coordinated resolution.
